The Rams saw Aaron Donald retire in the off-season, but have added intelligently the Defensive-Line in the draft.

They also return with the dangerous Stafford-Nacua combination on offence, so we expect similar scenes to last terms playoff clash.

LA enter the new season looking to better a 2023 campaign that saw them lose to Detroit in the Wildcard round.

The Rams made a poor start to last term as they went into the bye week in early November with a dismal record that stood at 3-6.

They did manage to rekindle their form following the restart, winning seven of their last eight regular season matches to finish 10-7 and secure what looked like an unlikely place in the postseason.

LA were narrowly beaten 24-23 by Detroit in the Wildcard clash at Ford Field as they were immediately eliminated.

The Rams lost Hall-of-fame-bound defensive tackle Aaron Donald to retirement after that defeat, but have gone some way to filling the gaps by enticing Jared Verse and Braden Fiske out of Florida State.

Detroit Lions Form

The Detroit have their focus set on making the Super Bowl after falling agonisingly short last year.

The Lions impressed at they went 12-5 in 2023, clinching the NFC North title for the very first time in franchise history, and they made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game.

There were some exceptional wins in that run, including a 21-20 victory when they managed to secure a stunning win over the Kansas City Chiefs on opening night, with their win over the eventual Super Bowl champions showing they can beat the best.

In the postseason, Detroit beat the LA Rams, 24-23, before eliminating Tampa Bay 31-23.

Their dream of making it to the Super Bowl was dashed in the NFC Championship Game, as they were beaten 34-31 at San Francisco.

Verdict

LA Rams @ DET Lions

Detroit arrive for their opening match of the season as favourites, and rightly so.

However, the Rams took them to the brink back in January and had been a reliable spread bet during the latter-stages of last season, so I am taking LA and the points in this one.
