Head To Head
Australia lead the three-match series 1-0 after securing a win by 28 runs in the opening match at The Ageas Bowl on Wednesday.
England Form
England looked like they would be chasing in excess of 230 runs as Australia's early onslaught with the bat was lead by Travis Head (59 from 23) and Matthew Short (41 from 26). However, they clawed their way back into the game as Adil Rashid (1-23) and Liam Livingstone (3-23) stemmed the flow of runs.
Chasing 180 to win, England never really looked like they would get close as they slipped to 52/4. Liam Livingstone (37 from 27) and Sam Curran (18 from 15) briefly gave England hope, but their batting lineup failed once again.
England's lineup looks a batter light, and this was exposed by the excellent Aussie bowlers. The likes of Will Jacks, Jordan Cox and Jacob Bethell will have to stand up to be counted in the series, although they will get little change from their opponents. I predict another tough outing for the home side on Friday.
Australia Form
Australia were outstanding with the bat in the first nine or so overs of the game before being pegged back by their hosts. While they will have been disappointed not to have scored in excess of 220, the 179 they did score proved more than enough in the end.
Travis Head's blistering 59 with the bat set the tone, and the bowlers followed up, with Sean Abbott (3-28), Josh Hazlewood (2-32) and Adam Zampa (2-20) doing the damage. While Australia did not fire perfectly throughout the entire game, they came up trumps in the important exchanges.
While England will look for a big reaction, Australia boast a settled team that can play a lot better than they did on Wednesday. I expect a second successive win for the touring side over their opponents.
Verdict
I am backing Travis Head to continue to lay into the English bowlers with another big score as the Aussies win the series with a game to spare.
