Gujarat Titans are looking to better their seventh-placed finish in the 2024 IPL as they missed out on a playoff spot by two points.

Punjab Kings finished a single spot above Mumbai Indians at the foot of the table in 2024, with the side losing nine of their 14 matches.

The pair have met five times in total, with the Titans winning three matches and the Kings winning twice.

Gujarat Titans were denied a place in the top-four last season as their last two matches were abandoned, ensuring GT could not notch the wins they needed.

GT secured a comfortable win over Chennai Super Kings in their final completed game of the season, beating their opponents by 35 runs. This ended a run of three consecutive defeats for the side.

Prior to these defeats, GT had beaten Punjab Kings by three wickets. The home side will hope that the arrival of Jos Buttler will help them fire bigger scores. Buttler notched 359 runs last season, and I am backing him to begin the season with the top score for his side.

Punjab Kings were not good enough last season, slipping to nine defeats in their 14 matches and winning just five times.

While the Kings did finish just four points behind Royal Challengers Bangalore in fourth, they were a long way short of RCB in their performances. Worrying for PBKS is that three of their last four have ended in defeat, while they were beaten in their last clash against their hosts.

While the new season will bring renewed hope, I do not predict that the Kings will find a way to start their campaign with a win as they slip to what could prove to be a damaging loss in the context of their season.
