Head To Head
England have won 11 of their last 12 meetings with Pakistan in all formats of the game.
Pakistan Form
Pakistan's woes from the first Test was replaced with jubilation in the second Test as they secured a morale-boosting win over England. Their 152-run triumph was a real statement from a nation that has had to take their fair share of humbling results of late.
Their win in the second Test was based on building the top score in the game in the first innings before battling to 221 in their second innings. Pakistan were given a number of lifelines in the game as England were poor in the field in the home side's second innings. At 156/8 and leading by around 220, Pakistan needed their tail to wag as England would have fancied their chances of chasing just over 200. Their tail did just that, but things could have been different had England taken their chances.
The third Test will see the sides move to a new ground for the first time after playing twice in Multan. Whether the track helps the spinners as much remains to be seen, and it will also be interesting to see whether Pakistan will win the toss for the third successive match.
Dropping Babar Azam for the remainder of the Test series looked like a good decision after victory in the second Test. It remains to be seen whether this will still be the right decision when the chips are down for the home side.
England Form
England were disappointing in the second Test as they twice failed to go big with the bat. At 211/2 with both Joe Root and Ben Duckett set at the crease in the first innings, it looked to be a case of how far ahead England would get. However, a collapse of epic proportions saw England lose eight wickets for 80 runs as they slipped to 291 all out.
This gave Pakistan all the help they needed as they stormed to what proved to be an insurmountable lead of 297, ultimately winning by 152 runs. England's all-action style of play with the bat will definitely have it's off days, and this was one of them. Playing their own brand of Test cricket has won England a lot of fans and matches, so it will not worry the travelling side the manner in which they were beaten.
Despite topping the run scoring charts with 342, Harry Brook is not the man we are backing to top score. Indeed, he scored 317 of those runs in one innings. Instead, we are backing England's best player Joe Root to get back among the runs as he leads his side to a win.
Verdict
I am backing England to get back to winning ways as they wrap up the Test series in a 2-1 triumph as Joe Root top scores for the travelling side.
