Arsenal vs Liverpool Preview & Tips
Arsenal arrive for their 21st league game of the season with a six-point lead over Manchester City in second following their battling 3-2 win over Bournemouth.
Liverpool were held to a frustrating 2-2 draw by Fulham in their last match as they made it two games without a win in the competition.
- Liverpool are unbeaten in their last eight league games (W6, D2)
- Arsenal have failed to win any of their last four against the Reds (L2, D2)
- Both sides have scored in four of the last five meetings between the teams
Head To Head
Liverpool have won four of their last 10 against Arsenal, with the Gunners winning twice and four matches ending as draws.
Arsenal Form
Arsenal have been excellent across their opening 20 Premier League matches, winning 15 times and securing a total of 48 points. With a six-point lead over Manchester City in second, the Gunners are in prime position to finally win the Premier League trophy.
Their five-game winning run has seen Arsenal account for Wolves, Everton, Brighton, Aston Villa and Bournemouth, although they have not been hugely comfortable in many of these wins. Their 4-1 win over Aston Villa saw the Gunners blow their opponents away, but wins by a single-goal against the other four has seen the Gunners struggle to really pull away from their opponents.
At the end of the season, all that matters is how many times they have won, and not how they won. However, it will be a cause for concern heading into their clash with Liverpool. Arsenal have not beaten the Reds since a 3-1 triumph back in February 2024.
While the travelling side do not arrive in the title race, they can still have their say, and I back Arsenal to drop points for the first time since the December 6th.
Liverpool Form
The title race in the 2024/25 Premier League season is likely one that will pass Liverpool by, with the reigning champions already 14 points off the pace. A win in this match would see the Reds cut the gap to 11 points, but this is still likely too big a gap to cut down completely.
Instead, the Reds will focus on extending their eight-game unbeaten run as they battle to secure a Champions League spot for next season. While their eight-game unbeaten run is impressive, they have only won four matches in this time, drawing the other four.
The Reds have often allowed the opposition too much time and space on the ball, and their leaky defence has been punished. This is why they have seen both sides score in three of their last four, with their attack having to account for their backline.
While Arsenal have been excellent at home this season, the previous meeting between the sides will buoy Liverpool. I back them to take something from this game as they hand Manchester City, who face Brighton in midweek, a way back into the title race.
Verdict
I am backing both teams to find the back of the net along with Liverpool-Draw in the double chance market.
