Arsenal vs Sunderland Preview & Tips
Arsenal hammered Leeds 4-0 in their latest Premier League match as they put an end to a three-game winless run in the competition.
Sunderland beat Burnley 3-0 in their last outing as they stormed to a ninth win of the season.
- Arsenal have won nine of their 12 at home this season (D2, L1)
- The Gunners have seen over 2.5 goals scored in seven of their 12 home games in the league
Head To Head
Arsenal have won seven of their last 10 against Sunderland, with the other three ending as draws.
Arsenal Form
Arsenal had picked up just two points from a possible nine prior to their meeting with Leeds, which made their 4-0 win over their opponents an even bigger statement than it otherwise might have been.
Victory, coupled with Manchester City coughing up a 2-0 lead over Tottenham to draw 2-2, means the Gunners are six points clear of their closest rivals. Victory in this one could see Arsenal move nine points clear which, at this stage of the season, may spell the end to City's title challenge.
Across their last eight in all competitions, six matches have seen over 2.5 goals. The Gunners will hope to avoid a repeat of their meeting earlier in the season where Sunderland came from 2-1 down to snatch a late point.
With this in mind, I predict that the home side will notch the win as the pair share in over 2.5 goals.
Sunderland Form
Sunderland may have lost some of their early-season momentum, but they have set themselves up well heading towards the final third of the season.
24 matches have culminated in nine wins and 36 points. While Sunderland are only four short of the supposed safety that 40 points brings, more importantly, they are 16 clear of West Ham in 18th. None of the bottom three look hugely capable of securing the points they would need to leapfrog Sunderland.
While Sunderland are already edging towards safety, I still expect them to give Arsenal some issues. The Gunners have seen over 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four meetings, and I back more of the same in this one.
Verdict
I am backing the two sides to score over 2.5 goals between them as Arsenal extract all three points from their latest fixture.
