Aston Villa vs Chelsea Preview & Tips

Aston Villa are looking to put more ground between themselves and the sides outside of the top four after stuttering of late.

Chelsea know that this is a huge chance to drag themselves closer to the automatic Champions League spots this season after failing to win any of their last three in the league.

  • Aston Villa have beaten Chelsea 2-1 in their last two meetings
  • The Blues have seen both sides scores in their last six league games

Head To Head

Aston Villa have won five of their last 10 against Chelsea, with the Blues winning three times and two games ending as draws.

Aston Villa Form

Aston Villa know that they cannot afford to continually drop points, especially against sides that are also battling for the top four spots in the competition. Their need for a win is clear after they were stunned in a 2-0 loss to bottom-side Wolves at the weekend.

At home, Villa have won nine of their 14 matches, with Villa Park quickly becoming a fortress this season. The home side will be desperate to build as we head towards the end of the season, and they play Chelsea in a period in which the Blues seem to be struggling for goals and defensive solidity.

While I back Chelsea to breach Villa’s defence, I do not see them outscoring their hosts. Instead, I am backing Villa to come good at home once again as they beat Chelsea for a third consecutive time.

Chelsea Form

Chelsea were not quite good enough to take points from Arsenal in their last outing as they slipped to a 2-1 loss at the hands of the league leaders. While the Blues were in the contest until the final whistle, they didn't create the chances to hand Arsenal a stunning result, with this seeing Chelsea's winless run extended to three matches.

They have also struggled against Villa of late. Their last win over Villa came back at the end of 2024, with Chelsea losing 2-1 in their last two meetings with their opponents as the balance of power between the pair has shifted.

With Chelsea struggling for wins and their propensity to concede soft goals, I am backing against the Blues as they see Villa move further clear of them in the standings.

Verdict

I am backing Aston Villa to secure the win over their top-four rivals as the pair fail to keep clean sheets.
