Aston Villa vs Maccabi Tel Aviv Preview & Tips
Aston Villa are looking for a return to winning ways in the Europa League after their stunning 2-1 loss to Go Ahead Eagles in the third round.
Maccabi Tel Aviv were hammered by Midtjylland in a 3-0 loss in their last European outing.
- Villa have won two of their three European matches with clean sheets
- The travelling side have failed to score in two of their three European matches
Head To Head
This will be the first time the two sides have met in a competitive football match.
Aston Villa Form
Aston Villa slipped to a frustrating 2-0 loss at the hands of Liverpool at the weekend as they failed to build on an impressive 1-0 win over Manchester City the week before.
Playing two of the best sides in England in consecutive match-days was always going to be tough, and so it proved, with Villa not able to really put Liverpool under the same sort of pressure they applied to City the week before.
Despite this defeat, Villa now boast six wins in their last eight in all competitions. This impressive run began with a 1-0 win over Bologna back in September, and they will have been hugely frustrated to have been denied three consecutive wins via their loss to the Eagles last time out.
With both victories in Europe coming to nil, I back Villa to bounce back in the Europa League as they notch all three points with a clean sheet.
Maccabi Tel Aviv Form
Maccabi Tel Aviv arrive for this one knowing they are out of their depth, with the second tier of European football one that has seen them secure a single point in three matches.
Their point came from a 0-0 draw with PAOK in their opener, and they have since been beaten by Dinamo Zagreb (3-1) and Midtjylland (3-0). Scoring goals has been an issue, while keeping them out has also proved too difficult for them.
With Villa looking to bounce back from their shock loss to Go Ahead Eagles, I back the travelling side to once again stomach a humbling defeat.
Verdict
I am backing the home side to easily beat the visitors as Villa get back to winning ways in Europe.
