Aston Villa vs Young Boys Preview & Tips

Aston Villa return to European action looking to build on a solid 2-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv in their last outing.

Young Boys were no match for PAOK last time out as they were swatted aside in a comfortable 4-0 defeat.

  • Villa have won to nil in both of their home games in Europe
  • Young Boys lost 4-0 in their last away game against PAOK

Head To Head

The pair have met once before, with Villa storming to a 3-0 away win over their opponents in the Champions League last season.

Aston Villa Form

Aston Villa are still on course to finish in one of the top places in the Europa League after a solid start has seen them pick up nine points from a possible 12.

Their only defeat came in a shock 2-1 loss to Go Ahead Eagles in game week three, with Villa off colour in that contest. Away from that loss, they have beaten Bologna (1-0), Feyenoord (2-0) and Maccabi Tel Aviv (2-0). At home, they have really impressed, winning both of their matches without conceding a goal.

This week, I back Villa to add to their impressive home run in Europe. Young Boys have won once and lost once on the road, with their last away game ending in a damning 4-0 loss to PAOK. With this in mind, I back Villa to continue to shine in Europe as they win to nil for the fourth times in five games.

Young Boys Form

Young Boys have started their European campaign in inconsistent style, winning and losing once apiece both at home and on the road.

Their 4-1 loss to Panathinaikos in game one was followed by a much better performance as they beat FCSB 2-0 on the road. They then made it two consecutive wins as they downed Ludogorets 3-2. However, in another poor performance, they were hammered 4-0 by PAOK in a sobering defeat.

While Young Boys have proved they have the ability to challenge when at their best, I back them to run out of steam against a team that is far better than them. Their 4-0 away defeat on the road against PAOK in game four does not fill me with any confidence, and I back them to fail to score in another defeat.

Verdict

I am backing Villa to win to nil for the third consecutive time at home as they continue to surge up the standings.
