Barcelona vs Villarreal Preview & Tips
Barcelona eased to a 3-0 win over Levante in their last outing as they took advantage of Real Madrid losing to Osasuna to move to the top of the standings.
Villarreal can move to within seven points of Barcelona if they can secure an unlikely win on the road against the leaders.
- Barcelona have seen over 2.5 goals scored in their last six in the league
- Villarreal have only won one of their last four on the road (L2, D1)
Head To Head
Barcelona have won seven of their last 10 against Villarreal with the latter winning the other three meetings.
Barcelona Form
Barcelona continue to impress in their battle to secure the La Liga title this year, with the side currently sitting a point above Real Madrid in a contest that is shifting one way and then the other.
Last week, Barcelona returned to the top after Real lost 2-1 to Osasuna. The week before, Barca had lost to Girona, with this seeing Real move to the summit. While the rest of the sides in the competition languish behind, Barcelona and Real continue to impress as they push each other hard.
While Villarreal arrive looking to drag themselves back into the title race, I do not see Barca dropping points in this one. The home side have taken the maximum 36 points on offer on their own patch, while they have seen over 2.5 goals scored in 11 of their 12 home matches.
Villarreal Form
Villarreal have to win this match if they are to stay in the title race, with their slim hopes of securing a stunning title win dwindling.
Wins over Levante and Valencia has enabled Villarreal to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to Getafe, but just five wins across their last 10 in the league has seen them lose ground on the leaders. Defeat in this one would see Villarreal slip 13 points off the lead, completely ending their title hopes.
While Villarreal have been the best of the rest outside of the top two, the difference between the other 18 sides and the premier teams in the competition is clear. I predict that the travelling side will have their moments in the clash as they try to unsettle their hosts, but I do not back Villarreal as first hosts third in La Liga.
Verdict
I am backing the home side to secure a stunning 13th consecutive win on their own patch as the pair share in over 2.5 goals.
