Bayer Leverkusen vs Arsenal Preview & Tips


Bayer Leverkusen are eyeing up a huge scalp in the Champions League as they take on perfect Arsenal in the Round of 16. 

Arsenal will be confident that they can take their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after their run of eight consecutive wins in the group stage of the tournament. 

  • Leverkusen have seen both sides score in two of their last three competitive matches 
  • Arsenal have won their last four competitive matches but only kept one clean sheet

The pair have met a total of three times, with the Gunners winning twice and one game ending as a draw. 

Bayer Leverkusen Form 


Bayer Leverkusen may have only finished four points short of Manchester City in eighth, but they were also just three above Marseille in 25th. The incredible competition for places in the tournament saw the Germans struggle to really get going as they only managed to win three of their eight group games. 

Despite this run, Leverkusen were able to hold their nerve against Olympiacos in the playoffs as they secured a 2-0 aggregate win over their opponents which came largely from their 2-0 away win in the first-leg. 

With the second-leg in London to come, Leverkusen know they need to come away from the first-leg with something. Heading to the Emirates Stadiums behind would be a major issue, which is why I predict that Leverkusen will not simply look to sit back and defend. Instead, I predict that they will breach Arsenal’s defence, although I do also see this leaving gaps at the back that will get exploited.  

Arsenal Form 


Arsenal have been outstanding across their 2025/26 Champions League campaign, winning all of their eight outings while scoring 23 goals (the most of any side) and conceding four times (the least of any side). 

The London outfit are looking like a good bet to go all the way and win the competition, but they cannot rest on their laurels. Yes, they were perfect across the group stage, but that means nothing now we have entered the knockout phase. 

The Gunners have not been great at the back of late with a single clean sheet coming across their last five in all competitions. However, in this time they are unbeaten, winning four matches and drawing once. While I predict another failure to keep a clean sheet, I am backing the Gunners to outscore the German side as they storm to a first-leg lead. 

Verdict

I am backing Arsenal to secure the win despite having to pick the ball out of their own net once again.
