Brentford vs Arsenal Preview & Tips
Brentford are eyeing up a third consecutive win in the league after two superb victories over Aston Villa and Newcastle.
Arsenal beat Sunderland 3-0 in their last outing as they secured a second consecutive league win.
- Brentford have only lost two of their last 10 (W6, D2)
- Arsenal have dropped points in three of their last five (L1, D2, W2)
Head To Head
Arsenal have won seven of their last 10 against Brentford, with the latter winning twice and one game ending as a draw.
Brentford Form
Brentford have been one of the outstanding success stories of the season so far after moving up to seventh in the competition, level on points with reigning champions Liverpool in sixth.
Despite losing their manager and a range of their top players in the summer, Brentford have managed to win 12 of their 25 matches, with the 39 points they have secured seeing them move 16 points clear of West Ham in 18th. For a side many had ear-marked as potential relegation candidates at the start of the season, their campaign so far has been exceptional.
While Arsenal arrive as the top team in the league, they will likely have to be at their best to beat Brentford. The home team have beaten Aston Villa and Newcastle in their last two, while they have won seven of their 12 at home, losing twice and drawing three times.
Backing Brentford outright is a risky move considering the quality of their opponents, so I am backing the home side in the double chance market instead. The home side will be roared on by an expectant crowd, and I predict they will blow the title race wide open in midweek.
Arsenal Form
Arsenal have done well to put an end to a run of three without a win in the league by beating Leeds (4-0) and Sunderland (3-0).
Their win over Sunderland was particularly important as it helped them to avenge a 2-2 draw with the newly-promoted side back in November. Victory meant that the Gunners were able to maintain their six-point lead at the summit as Manchester City beat Liverpool.
While Arsenal arrive in good form and aiming for a third consecutive win in the league, I am backing against them in this one. Their two draws against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest before a loss to Manchester United shows the Gunners are far from perfect, and their busy fixture list may begin to take a toll on them.
With this in mind, I am backing Arsenal to drop points in midweek as they see their two-game winning run brought to a grinding halt.
Verdict
I am backing Brentford/Draw in the double chance market as they give Manchester City hope of reeling Arsenal in over the next few weeks.
