Brighton vs Arsenal Preview & Tips
Brighton edged to a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest in their last match as they stretched their winning run in the league to two games.
Arsenal eased to a 2-1 win over Chelsea in their last Premier League match as they made it consecutive wins in the competition.
- Brighton have drawn two of their last four against the Gunners (L2)
- Arsenal have drawn two of their last three away from home (W1)
Head To Head
Arsenal have won five of their last 10 against Brighton, with the latter winning three times and two games ending as draws.
Brighton Form
Brighton secured successive wins in the Premier League at the weekend as they backed up their 2-0 win over Brentford with a 2-1 win over relegation threatened Nottingham Forest.
This victory was their ninth of the season and moves them up to 37 points. With Brighton 12 clear of West Ham in 18th, the side will feel they have done enough to secure their place in the Premier League for next season, while a win over the Gunners would see them climb onto 40 points, which is generally regarded as the benchmark for Premier League survival.
While the Gunners arrive as the favourites, Brighton will be confident that they can stun the visitors. Two of their last four meetings have seen the points shared, while the Gunners have drawn two of their last three away from home. With this in mind, I am backing the home side to blow the title race wide open as they take a point from the league leaders.
Arsenal Form
Arsenal notched a 2-1 win over London rivals Chelsea in their last game as they secured a second consecutive victory against a traditional big six opponent in as many games after downing Tottenham the week before.
Victory means they still boast a five-point lead over Manchester City at the summit, although Pep Guardiola's side have a game in hand. With the gap between the pair one that will shrink if City can win their extra game, Arsenal cannot afford to drop points.
However, while they have twice beaten London rivals in their last two outings, Arsenal have struggled in recent away games, and I predict that Brighton will give them some real issues on the road. They had their moments where they looked nervous against Chelsea, and I predict that Brighton will pile the pressure on them in midweek.
Verdict
I am backing the pair to share the points as Brighton do Manchester City a big favour in the battle for the title.
