Canada vs Australia Preview & Tips
Canada battled past Wales in their last outing as they secured a 1-0 win over their stubborn opponents.
Australia notched an impressive 3-1 win over New Zealand in their last game in September as they extended their winning run.
- Canada have lost their last two against Australia
- Australia have seen both sides score in their last two away games
Head To Head
The pair have met three times, with Australia winning the last two meetings and Canada winning once.
Canada Form
As one of the three co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup alongside Mexico and the USA, Canada have been bereft of true competitive matches in the build-up to the tournament.
While their clash with Australia this week will not be a genuinely competitive game, it will provide Canada with the chance to play against one of the teams they may meet at the tournament. Heading into this one, Canada have won their last two, beating Romania 3-0 before downing Wales in a 1-0 win.
While Wales have been steadily improving of late, they are not unbeatable. While Australia are not in that category either, their impressive 11-game unbeaten run features seven wins. This should likely to a very good workout for Canada, and while I back them to score, I predict they will taste defeat in this one.
Australia Form
Australia have looked very strong of late, with the nation securing their place at the 2026 World Cup on the back of a very impressive qualifying campaign.
10 games saw five wins come along with four draws and a single defeat. The 19 points they picked up was enough to see them finish six clear of Saudi Arabia in third, thus securing their place at the showpiece tournament.
While the Aussies do take on a strong opponent this week, they will arrive for the game with no fear. They have won their last six matches, while they are unbeaten in their last 11. A pair of wins over New Zealand in September were good results, and I back them to extend their winning run this week.
Verdict
I am backing Australia to beat Canada in their opening match of October as both sides find the back of the net.
