Chelsea vs Leeds Preview & Tips

Chelsea have been excellent of late with their 3-1 win over Wolves at Molineux extending their winning run in the league to four matches.

Leeds eased their own relegation worries slightly as they secured a 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest to ensure West Ham in 18th remained six points behind them.

  • Chelsea have won their last four in the league
  • Leeds have lost seven of their 12 on the road (W1, D4)
  • Both sides have scored in their last two meetings

Head To Head

Chelsea have won seven of their last 10 against Leeds, with the latter winning twice and one game ending as a draw.

Chelsea Form

Chelsea are currently one of the form teams in the Premier League, with wins over Brentford, Crystal Palace, West Ham and Wolves seeing them secure a maximum of 12 points.

While they have beaten a string of teams lower down in the table, Chelsea from earlier in the season would likely have dropped points and seen the top four move further away. As it is, the Blues sit a point behind Manchester United in fourth, while they are only four points behind Aston Villa in third.

While Leeds have won two of their last four against Chelsea, all these wins have been at home. When Chelsea have hosted this clash, they have won their last seven games, and I back them to extend this run to eight matches.

Leeds Form

Leeds needed a result against Nottingham Forest at the weekend, and that is exactly what they got as they eased to an impressive 3-1 win over their opponents.

Victory enabled them to bounce back from their 4-0 home loss to Arsenal, while it also ended a two-game winless run. With 18th-placed West Ham beating Burnley 2-0 at the weekend, victory over Forest means that Leeds are still six points clear of the relegation zone after 25 matches.

While I predict that Leeds will give the home side issues at the back, I do not back them to take any points from this one. The Blues have been very good of late and I predict that Leeds will leave London on the back of a defeat.

Verdict

I am backing Chelsea to win this one despite failing to keep a clean sheet for the fourth consecutive league game.
