Crystal Palace vs AEK Larnaca Preview & Tips
Crystal Palace were able to bounce back from an embarrassing 1-1 draw with Zrinjski in the first-leg of their Conference League playoff with a 2-0 win over their opponents at home.
AEK Larnaca have impressed across their Conference League campaign so far, with the outfit yet to lose in the competition.
- Palace have won three of their last four in all competitions (L1)
- Larnaca have seen below 2.5 goals scored in their last five Conference League outings
Head To Head
The pair have only met once before, with Larnaca winning 1-0 back in October.
Crystal Palace Form
After a real wobble across competitions, Crystal Palace seem to have steadied themselves by remaining unbeaten in four of their last five with three of these games ending as wins.
Victories over Wolves, Zrinjski and Tottenham have all shown the fight in this Palace side, while they were in the game until the full time whistle in their recent 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
In Europe, Palace have been steady. Their last four matches have seen them go unbeaten, with the Premier League side winning twice and drawing twice. Their playoff saw them win 3-1 on aggregate against Zrinjski in another fighting performance.
With a second-leg away from home to come, Palace will know a win in the first-leg is vital. Neither side has been hugely impressive going forward across the competition, so I expect a tight game in which Palace come out on top.
AEK Larnaca Form
AEK Larnaca have been one of the standout teams in the Conference League this season, with the side yet to taste defeat across their opening six matches.
Three wins and three draws saw them secure 12 points, meaning they avoided an awkward playoff tie and have the benefit of playing at home in the second-leg. This means that still being in the tie at the end of the first-leg would be a positive result.
While I do not back Larnaca to extend their unbeaten run in Europe, I do predict that they will keep things tight defensively as they see less than 2.5 goals scored for the sixth consecutive European game.
Verdict
I am backing Palace to win a low-scoring game meaning it is still all to play for ahead of the second-leg.
