Aston Villa were able to start the new season with a win over West Ham as they took all three points in a 2-1 win in London.

Arsenal also got off to a winning start as they eased past Wolves in a 2-0 triumph at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have secured five wins in their last 10 meetings with Villa, with the latter notching five victories in this time.

Aston Villa began the new campaign with a win over West Ham as last season's surprise packages ensured they put their best foot forward in game one.

Their 2-1 win over the Hammers was hardly pretty, but they took all three points as they bounced back from losing their 1-0 lead to break a stubborn Hammers' defence twice and take all three points. Following last season's exploits, Villa are now one of the top sides in the league, and they will have to get used to sides setting up to be tough to beat against them.

Against Arsenal, Villa will have to remain content with seeing less of the ball as their opponents look to starve them of possession. While the Gunners will have their moments in the match, Villa managed to do the double over their opponents last season, and I am backing them to avoid defeat once more.

Arsenal eventually broke Wolves' resistance in their opening match of the season as they secured a 2-0 win to ensure their title challenge got off to a winning start.

While the Gunners scored twice and kept a clean sheet in their opening match, hosting Wolves and travelling to face Aston Villa are two very different propositions. Villa will not likely give Arsenal any free ball as they look to hustle and rush them.

With this in mind, I am backing the Gunners to falter in only their second match of the new season. Arsenal were beaten 1-0 when they visited Villa Park back in December, and I predict that they will fail to get a win this week.

I am backing Aston Villa to frustrate Arsenal and take at least a point from them as they make it three consecutive matches unbeaten against the Gunners.
