Aston Villa vs Chelsea Preview & Tips

Aston Villa pushed Liverpool all the way in their last match in midweek as they secured a point in a 2-2 draw at Villa Park.

Chelsea were hammered 3-0 by Brighton in their last league outing as they made it five without a win on the road in the Premier League.

  • Aston Villa have drawn their last two matches and four of their last five
  • Chelsea have failed to win any of their last five on the road (L3, D2)
  • Villa have seen both sides score in their last two outings
  • The Blues have seen both teams score in five of their last six

Head To Head

Chelsea have won five of their last 10 against Villa, with the latter winning three times and two matches ending as draws.

Aston Villa Form

Despite failing to win any of their last five in the league, Aston Villa are still in the equation to secure Champions League football next season. Villa sit in ninth with 39 points, five short of Manchester City in fourth.

While they are proving tough to beat right now, only losing one of their last five, they have failed to win in this time, securing four draws. It is worth noting that they have drawn with Arsenal and Liverpool in this time, but their lack of wins could still come back to haunt them.

Villa have been very leaky at the back this season, conceding 40 goals in 26 matches. Against a Chelsea side that have enjoyed scoring, I predict there to be goals in this one. I am also backing a draw in this match as Villa notch their fourth consecutive stalemate on their own patch in the league.

Chelsea Form

Chelsea's little blip on the road has turned into a major issue, with the Blues now winless in their last five away from home, with this providing three defeats and two draws.

A victory over Aston Villa would strengthen their Champions League hopes, but it is tough to see them bouncing back from what was an insipid performance against Brighton last week as they were beaten 3-0.

Chelsea's last trip to Villa Park ended in a 2-2 draw last April, and while another stalemate will do little to silence Chelsea's critics, I believe that a draw with Villa on the road is not a bad result.

Verdict

I am backing the points to be shared in this one as the two leaky defences fail to keep clean sheets once again.
