Aston Villa vs Manchester City Preview & Tips

After a rocky start to the season, Aston Villa have been able to steady the ship with five matches without defeat seeing them come into this match in good form.

Manchester City have also impressed of late, but they have not been perfect this season, with only two wins coming from their opening four on the road.

Head To Head

City have won seven of their last 10 against Villa, with the latter winning twice and one game ending as a draw.

Aston Villa’s season has just about taken off, with their five-game winless run making way for three consecutive wins.

The quality of their vanquished opponents has not always been particularly high, with the side beating Fulham and Burnley, but they will taken a huge amount of confidence from their last game as they beat Tottenham 2-1 away from home.

While City have a better record than Villa across their last 10, the latter have landed their fair share of body blows of late. Indeed, across their last six, Villa have won twice with one game ending as a draw. All three of these matches have been at Villa Park. With this in mind, I predict a tough match for City on the road.

Manchester City Form

Like Villa, Manchester City have had to battle through a poor start as they lost two of their opening three in the league.

Since then, City have gone unbeaten in their last five, winning four matches and drawing once with Arsenal. Despite their strong recent run, City have been poor on the road. A tight 1-0 win over Burnley followed on from a draw with Arsenal and a 2-1 loss to Brighton. Clearly, playing away from home does not currently suit the former champions.

Erling Haaland has once again proved himself to be the best out-and-out striker in the game having scored in his last 12 for club and country. Incredibly, he has scored 22 goals across his last 12 matches, and I back him to extend his stunning run.

Verdict

Aston Villa v Man City

I am backing Haaland to grab another goal in City’s latest trip. However, I do not back City in this one, and I am instead backing Villa-Draw in the Double Chance market as they make it four consecutive matches in which City have failed to win at Villa Park.
