Crystal Palace vs Liverpool Preview & Tips

Crystal Palace have the chance to become the only unbeaten side in the league this weekend as they take on reigning champions Liverpool.

Liverpool have been perfect so far, with all five of their league games ending in victories.

  • Palace have shared the points in both of their home matches in the league
  • Liverpool have found the winning goal in the 80th minute or later of four of their five league games
  • Alexander Isak scored his first Liverpool goal against Southampton in midweek

Head To Head

In their last 10 matches, Liverpool have secured five victories with Palace winning once. The other four games have ended as draws including in their last two meetings.

Crystal Palace Form

Alongside Liverpool, Crystal Palace are the only other side that is yet to lose in the Premier League after their first five matches.

However, they have only won two of these games, drawing the other three. On their own patch, Palace have drawn twice, with a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest followed by a 0-0 draw with Sunderland. While they are not slipping to defeats in their games, those were two outings that Palace were more than capable of winning. Can Palace link their strong defence up with an attack that wins them their games?

While I back Palace to give Liverpool's attackers some real issues, I do not see them taking all three points. They beat Liverpool on penalties in their last meeting, but this came after the teams shared a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes. This was their second successive draw, and I back them to end with a third consecutive stalemate.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool have been perfect this term, but they have hardly been comfortable in their opening seven in all competitions.

Five wins in the Premier League have seen a quartet of games won in the 80th+ minute. In the Champions League, the Reds needed a winner in the 92nd minute from Virgil van Dijk to beat Atletico Madrid 3-2, while Hugo Ekitike scored an 85th minute goal against Southampton in midweek in the League Cup.

While the Reds have been perfect so far, they come up against an opponent that have been excellent at the back, but have struggled for consistent goals. Apart from their 3-0 win over Aston Villa, they have failed to score more than once in three of their four league games.

I back Liverpool to drop points for the first time this season despite Alexander Isak making it two goals in two games for the Reds. This will come with Palace showing their impressive defensive strength.

Verdict

I predict that Crystal Palace will be the first side to take points from Liverpool this season despite Alexander Isak scoring his debut league goal for Liverpool.
