Manchester City eased past Chelsea in their last match as they got their title defence off to a winning start.

Ipswich were unable to mark their return to the Premier League with a win as they were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool on their own patch.

City have won three of their last 10 against Ipswich, with the travelling side winning the other seven meetings. It is worth noting that the pair have not met since 2002.

Manchester City Form

Manchester City were too good for Chelsea in game one of the new season as they picked up all three points in a 2-0 win.

While City were rarely tested by the Blues, they looked very strong as they controlled the ball and the game. City will likely only get stronger as the campaign goes on, and they will really fancy their chances against an Ipswich side that will be braced for a hammering this week.

Erling Haaland looked good in his opening match of the league season as he scored the first of City's two goals, and I predict he will once again get the service he desires as he scores once more for Pep Guardiola's side.

Ipswich Form

Ipswich will have been hugely excited to have made a return to the Premier League, but the party is well and truly over, with the newly-promoted side facing the daunting prospect of facing the best side in club football on their own patch.

Against Liverpool, Ipswich did have their moments, but they could not make Liverpool pay. While they proved strong enough in the Championship to muscle their way past the opposition when not at their best, they will get punished if they are out of sorts in the Premier League.

While the away side will look to stay compact as they try to ensure they do not give City an easy opportunities, I cannot see them coming away with any points in this one.

Verdict

Man City v Ipswich

I am backing over 3.5 goals and a City win as the home side secure their second win in as many outings. I am also backing Erling Haaland to get on the scoresheet first once again.
