Manchester United are looking to start as they mean to go on in the new Premier League season after enduring an underwhelming campaign last term.

Fulham will sniff the chance to claim a massive scalp in their opening game as they take on a side they beat in their last visit to Old Trafford.

United have won four of their last five against Fulham

Manchester United have won seven of their last 10 against Fulham, with the travelling side winning once and the other two matches ending as draws.

Manchester United edge towards hosting the opening of the 2024/25 Premier League season fearing what could be on the horizon after losing their last two matches in preseason, while they have only won two of their last six.

Of course, preseason football does not always have a large bearing on results in the regular season, but the confidence a side can attain from a string of wins can be important. Despite this, United will target Fulham as a side they should take all three points from in their opening match.

The home side have beaten their opponents in four of their last five meetings, although they have only kept a clean sheet in one of their last seven against their opponents.

Fulham Form

Fulham stuttered massively as the 2023/24 season came to an end, winning just one of their last five. While they finished 11 points clear of Luton Town in 18th, things could have been very different if they had been poor earlier in the season.

In preseason, Fulham have looked good, beating Benfica and Hoffenheim, with a single loss coming against Spainish side Sevilla. The one worry for Fulham will be that they have not played much competitive football heading into the new season.

While the away side are backed to get a goal in this one, I cannot see them beating a Manchester United outfit that will be going all out to win this one.

Verdict

I am backing United to get a win, but I do not predict that they will keep a clean sheet against an opponent they struggled against last term.
