Newcastle arrive for this one on the back of a 2-1 loss to Chelsea in their meeting in the Premier League at the weekend.

The Blues can make it two victories in a matter of days against the Magpies when they travel to St James' Park in midweek.

Chelsea have won six of their last 10 against the Magpies, with Newcastle winning twice and two games ending as draws.

Newcastle were left to rue what might have been at the weekend as they gave themselves too much to do in their clash with the Blues. Despite levelling the game at 1-1, the Magpies saw Cole Palmer score the winner for Chelsea in the second-half as they struggled to create enough clear-cut chances.

This was their second defeat in as many games, while it means they are now three without a win. While they have been fairly good at the back of late, conceding just four goals across their last five games, they have struggled for goals, scoring just four times across this run.

While Eddie Howe may look to rotate his squad, I predict that the Magpies will continue to struggle for goals in this one as they battle against a Chelsea side that are strong on the road.

Chelsea Form

Chelsea made it two wins on the bounce at the weekend as they followed up their 4-1 victory against Panathinaikos in the Europa Conference League with a win against the Magpies.

While the Blues have put in some questionable performances at times this season, they are enjoying a strong run this term. Much of this has been down to the team settling and the exploits of Cole Palmer. The young forward has quickly become Chelsea's go-to player, with so many of their attacks running through him.

While Palmer was not selected for Chelsea's Europa Conference League squad to manage his work load, I predict Enzo Maresca will look to utilise him in the League Cup, and I am backing him to find the back of the net once again against the Magpies.
