Nottingham Forest vs Arsenal Preview & Tips

Nottingham Forest almost secured a stunning draw against Newcastle in their last game in a pulsating 4-3 loss.

Arsenal were nowhere near good enough in their last match as they were beaten 1-0 by West Ham at the Emirates Stadium.

  • Forest have won their last two matches on their own ground
  • Arsenal were stunned by West Ham in a 1-0 loss in their last game
  • The two have seen both teams score in two of their last three meetings

Head To Head

Arsenal have won seven of their last 10 meetings with Forest, with the latter winning the other three.

Nottingham Forest Form

Nottingham Forest have been in stunning form this season, and they currently sit in third in the league with 47 points. With 12 games of the campaign to come, Forest are right in the mix for a berth in the Champions League next term.

However, Forest arrive having lost their last two matches in the league. Their defeat at the hands of Newcastle was particularly interesting. The Magpies won the match courtesy of an 11-minute first-half salvo in which they scored four goals. However, Forest dominated their hosts in the second-half and could have secured a point as they went down 4-3.

Importantly for Forest, they are unbeaten in their last six at home, with this including five wins and a single draw. Their draw in this time came against Liverpool, with Forest showing they are more than good enough to battle with the best. If they hit the levels they managed in the second-half against Newcastle when they host the Gunners in midweek, they will cause problems.

Arsenal Form

Arsenal's lack of firepower up-front was highlighted in their last match as West Ham took three precious points home with them in a match that may have decided the title race.

The Gunners were indebted to a brace from makeshift striker Mikel Merino against Leicester in the game before, but he could not repeat the trick as Arsenal failed to score against the Hammers. Following Liverpool's 2-0 win over Manchester City at the weekend, Arsenal will know they cannot afford to drop more points.

The gap between themselves and the Reds now stands at 11 points. Dropping points against Forest could put the final nail in their coffin this season.

Without a true striker to lead the line, I do not back the Gunners to come away with the win they need. I believe they will score, but Forest have been exceptional at home, and they will fancy their chances of keeping the Gunners within touching distance in the table.

Verdict

I am backing both sides to hit the back of the net in a feisty encounter between two of the top-three teams in the competition. Following Arsenal's insipid loss at the weekend and when considering Forest's home form, I am backing the home side or a draw in the double chance market.
