Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle Tips

Nottingham Forest come into the EFL Cup on the back of an impressive 1-0 win over Southampton on the road in the Premier League.

Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw by a stubborn Bournemouth side that could have taken all three points from the Magpies.

Head To Head

Newcastle have won six of their last 10 against Forest, with the latter winning in the other four matches.

Nottingham Forest Form

Nottingham Forest have started the new season in decent form, with the side unbeaten after their opening two games following a draw and a win.

Their victory over Southampton was impressive as they secured all three points on the road, although they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth in their only home game. They will hope that the EFL Cup can bring renewed fortunes at home as they look to piece together a cup run.

The issue for Forest is that it look like goals will be at a premium this season. While they have scored in both of their opening games, they are hardly tearing the opposition apart, and I am predicting a low-scoring defeat for the home team in midweek.

Newcastle Form

Newcastle were left hugely frustrated by Bournemouth in their last match as they were held to a 1-1 draw by an opponent they would have fancied themselves against.

While the Cherries executed their game-plan well, Eddie Howe's men know have to beat a side like Bournemouth if they are to challenge for a top-four place again. Despite this, the Magpies are unbeaten in their opening two following a win over Southampton and a draw with Bournemouth.

Incredibly, the two sides have identical records this season after both beating Southampton 1-0 and drawing with Bournemouth. While results show the two sides are evenly-matched at this time, the Magpies should beat their hosts.

Verdict

I am backing a low-scoring win for Newcastle as they take their place in the next round of the EFL Cup.
