Everton vs Arsenal Preview & Tips
Everton are looking to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Chelsea that saw their two-game winning run brought to an end.
Arsenal stumbled past winless Wolves in their last game as they barely bounced back from their 2-1 loss to Aston Villa the week before.
- Everton have taken points from the Gunners in their last two meetings
- Arsenal have failed to win any of their last three away games in the Premier League (D2, L1)
Head To Head
The last two meetings between the sides have ended in draws, with Arsenal winning five times and Everton winning three matches.
Everton Form
Everton have been enjoying an excellent season so far, with the Toffees picking up 24 points from their opening 16 matches.
While they are just four points short of Chelsea and the Champions League spots, more importantly they are 11 points clear of West Ham in the final relegation spot. With seven wins, three draws and six defeats, the Toffees have been very tough to beat so far, and they will arrive for this one confident that they can give Arsenal some real issues.
Of course, everything will need to go right for Everton if they are to take points from the Gunners, but they proved they can frustrate Arsenal last year as the pair shared the points twice. With Arsenal limping to two points from a possible nine on the road in their last three in the league, I am backing Everton to blow the title race wide open as they frustrate the Gunners.
Arsenal Form
Despite sitting at the top of the Premier League table after 16 matches, this festive period feels like it may be make or break for the Gunners.
Having dropped points in just two of their opening 10, they have since won three of their next six, losing once and drawing twice. While they are still in good form, having won 11 of their 16 matches, they have seen their lead over Manchester City cut to just two points. Now, they face a supremely stubborn Everton with a number of players missing due to injury.
Their 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in their last away game in the league was a stunning defeat as they conceded in the 95th minute. While I do not predict that we will see a similarly dramatic ending to this one, I do back them to drop points once again.
Verdict
I am backing Everton to hand Manchester City the momentum in the title race as they deny Arsenal all three points in a battling draw.
