Fenerbahce vs Nottingham Forest Preview & Tips
Fenerbahce took a point from FCSB in their last Europa League match, with this setting up their playoff against Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest hammered Ferencvaros 4-0 in their last European game as they ended the group stage in style.
- Forest only won one of their four European away games (L1, D2)
- The home side have won their last four in all competitions
Head To Head
This will be the first time the two sides have met in a competitive football match.
Fenerbahce Form
Fenerbahce had to endure an inconsistent group stage campaign as they won three matches, lost twice and shared the points three times.
Their tally of 12 points means they finished the group stage in 19th, three points clear of Young Boys in 25th. While securing their place in the playoff round was their only priority heading into their final match, they will still have been disappointed to have finished four points short of eighth placed Roma.
With a tough second-leg in England to come, Fenerbahce have to find a way to win the first-leg. Forest have won their last three on their own patch in the Europa League, while Fenerbahce have only won once away from home.
While I predict that this will be a tight game, I am backing home advantage to tell as Forest head home on the back of a frustrating defeat.
Nottingham Forest Form
Nottingham Forest came within two points of eighth placed Roma in the Europa League group stage, with the English side unable to avoid the awkward playoff stage in the competition.
Despite being handed a tough test against Fenerbahce, Forest will feel they will have enough over two-legs to move into the quarter-finals.
While they are tough to beat on the road in Europe having won once, lost once and drawn twice, they have not been great of late. Indeed, their last away game against Leeds ended in a 3-1 loss, while they are winless in their last three, having drawn the other two.
While I predict that Forest will move into the quarter-finals following the second-leg, I believe they will have to do things the hard way as they slip to a defeat in the first-leg.
Verdict
I am backing Fenerbahce to make the second-leg of their playoff with Forest interesting as they hand the travelling side a defeat.
