France vs Azerbaijan Preview & Tips

France are eyeing up a third successive win in their World Cup qualifying group as they look to take another big step towards securing their place at the tournament next summer.

Azerbaijan arrive for their third game on the back of a defiant 1-1 draw with Ukraine back in September.

France have beaten Azerbaijan 10-0 and 2-0 in their previous meetings

The pair have met twice before, with France winning both matches with an aggregate score of 12-0.

France Form

France have started their World Cup qualifying campaign in tentative style, beating Ukraine 2-0 before battling to a 2-1 win over Iceland at home.

For a side that will have aspirations of securing the trophy next year, now seems like the perfect time to shift into a higher gear and secure a statement win over an opponent they are a long way clear of in regard to quality.

I am backing a big win in this one, with the home side boasting a 10-0 triumph the last time the pair met. While this meeting did come all the way back in 1995, I am tipping a substantial win for the French as they get back to international duty with a big win.

Azerbaijan Form

Azerbaijan's toughest match of the group is upon them, and they will be under no illusion about the task at hand.

A 1-1 draw in their last competitive match against Ukraine will give them hope, but this point did come at home. Prior to this, they were hammered 5-0 by Iceland in their last away game in a display of how bad things can get when the opposition get things right.

With the prospect of facing a French side they lost 10-0 to when they last met 30 years ago, I predict that the travelling side will struggle as they are put to the sword.

I am backing France to win this one by five goals or more as they thrash Azerbaijan and lay down a marker in their group.
