Hull City vs Chelsea Preview & Tips

Hull City are hoping to pull off a real giant-killing in the FA Cup fourth round as they host Chelsea this week.

Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by Leeds in their midweek Premier League outing, with the London side given little time to reflect on dropping points.

  • Hull have scored in six of their last seven in all competitions
  • Chelsea beat Charlton 5-1 in their last FA Cup match

Head To Head

Chelsea have won nine of their last 10 against Hull with one match back in 2010 ending in a draw.

Hull City Form

Hull City's last outing in the FA Cup ended in a tight 1-0 win over Blackburn that saw them set up their clash with Premier League side Chelsea.

Since their win over Blackburn in the cup, Hull have won four of their last six in the league, although they are winless in their last two matches after drawing with Watford and losing 3-2 at home to Bristol.

Chelsea have had some real issues at the back this season, and they were guilty of throwing away a two-goal lead at home against Leeds in midweek. While I back Hull to continue the trend of ensuring Chelsea do not secure a clean sheet, I am backing against them notching a giant-killing this week.

Chelsea Form

Chelsea were hugely frustrating against Leeds in midweek as they were forced to stomach a 2-2 draw with their struggling opponents. This draw saw Chelsea's four-game winning run in the league brought to a grinding halt.

Across competitions, Chelsea have looked good. The Blues have won six of their last eight, losing once and drawing once. While they have outscored their opponents regularly, they have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last six.

Making any trip in the FA Cup is always a challenge regardless of the quality of the opposition. Chelsea's leaky defence is one I do not predict will keep a clean sheet this week, but I am backing them to secure the win as they keep their dream of winning the FA Cup alive.

Verdict

I am backing Chelsea to secure the win in this one despite once again having to pick the ball out of their own net.
