Liverpool vs Manchester City Preview & Tips

Liverpool beat Newcastle 4-1 in their last game as they finally put an end to a five-game winless run in the league.

Manchester City saw a two-goal lead evaporate in their last league outing as they had to settle for a point against lowly Tottenham.

  • City have seen both sides score in four of their last six in the league
  • City have drawn four of their last six in the Premier League (W1, L1)
  • Liverpool have drawn four of their last six league outings (W1, L1)

Head To Head

Liverpool have won have won five of their last 10 against City, with the latter winning three times and two games ending as draws.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool have been incredibly frustrating this season, with the side dropping points too often to mount a serious defence of their title.

11 wins in 24 matches have come alongside six draws and seven defeats. While they have only lost one of their last six games, only one match has ended in a win, with the other four seeing the points shared. More worrying still is beside Arsenal, the Reds have drawn with Leeds, Fulham and Burnley, with all three teams the Reds should beat.

With City in town this weekend, I back the Reds to take their game up a level as they so often do against their big opponents. I predict the Reds will once again have to pick the ball out of their own net as they take a point from City with the home team putting another nail in the coffin of City's title challenge.

Manchester City Form

Manchester City allowed a huge chance to stay within four points of Arsenal to pass them by at the weekend as they dropped two points against struggling Tottenham.

Having gone 2-0 up, City could not find what would have turned out to be the all-important third goal as they were held in a 2-2 draw. Now, with the gap between City and the summit standing at six points, they cannot afford any more mistakes.

While I back City to get on the scoreboard once again, I do not predict that they will beat Liverpool at Anfield. The Reds will likely relish the chance to have a big say in the title race, and I back the home team to take a point from the current second placed side in the league.

Verdict

I am backing the pair to share the points as both sides fail to keep clean sheets in an entertaining clash.
