Liverpool arrive for the EFL Cup final looking to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss on penalties to PSG in the Champions League Round of 16 in midweek.

Newcastle edged to a 1-0 win over West Ham in their last league outing as they ensured they would arrive for this game on the back of a win.

Liverpool have won seven of their last 10 against the Magpies, with Newcastle failing to win once as the other three have ended as draws.

Liverpool will feel they should be gearing up for their trip to Wembley on the back of a five-game winning run that was extended after they beat PSG in midweek. However, the Premier League leaders could not break down their opponents despite enjoying the better of the chances as they eventually slipped to defeat on penalties.

This defeat has seen them knocked out of Europe, and makes their EFL Cup final even more important. The Premier League is all but won, but the Reds have been knocked out of the FA Cup and Europe in the space of a few weeks, with their potential quadruple now down to a possible double.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is ruled out of the game, but I do not think this will slow the Reds down. Liverpool have won seven of their last eight against Newcastle in a very impressive run. Mohamed Salah had two quiet evenings against PSG in Europe, but I back him to come up good as he secures silverware for his side.

Newcastle Form

Newcastle secured a battling 1-0 win over West Ham in their last league game as they put an end to a two-game losing run.

The worry for the Magpies will be that they were hardly convincing against a West Ham side that have not been great this year. Indeed, a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool at the end of February was followed by a loss to Brighton days later. Ultimately, Newcastle have struggled for wins heading into their biggest match of the season.

While the Magpies will be roared on by an expectant crowd, they will struggle against the Reds. Liverpool were superb against PSG and played at a very high level without reward. I expect them to channel their frustrations in this one as they deny Newcastle the trophy.

I am backing Mohamed Salah to continue to score goals for the Reds as Liverpool secure the trophy and put their Champions League exit in midweek behind them.
