Liverpool vs Real Madrid Preview & Tips

Liverpool need a pick-me-up on the pitch after a poor run across competitions has seen the Reds meandering.

Real Madrid edged to a 1-0 win over Juventus in their last European game as they extended their winning run to three matches.

Head To Head

Real Madrid have won seven of their last 10 against Liverpool, with the Reds winning twice and one game ending as a draw.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool have struggled to consistently win games across competitions this season, with Arne Slot’s side finding defending particularly difficult this term.

While they boast two wins in their opening three in Europe, they are yet to keep a clean sheet. A 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid was a proper battling victory, but it led onto a stunning 1-0 loss to Galatasaray in game two. Their 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt saw them get back to winning ways, but this came against an opponent that gave the Reds far too much space.

Against Real, I worry for this Liverpool side. They are so open at the back and Real have the players that can turn space into chances. While I predict that the Reds will continue their trend of scoring in each of their European outings, I predict they will slip to a second defeat in four European games.

Real Madrid Form

While Real Madrid have not caught fire in the same way as PSG and Bayern Munich at the start of the new European campaign, they still arrive for this one perfect and in good form.

Their 2-1 win over Marseille in game one was followed by a comfortable 5-0 win over a Kairat Almaty side that was there to be beaten. They then laboured to a 1-0 win over Juventus, with their tight victory ensuring they have secured maximum points so far.

Against Liverpool, I predict that their run of two clean sheets in their last two will not be extended, with the Reds often piling forward and looking for goals in an attempt to compensate for their leaky defence. While I predict that the away side will concede, I do not predict that the Reds will outscore a Real outfit looking to take their Champions League trophy back this season.
