Manchester City vs Brighton Preview & Tips
Manchester City were held by Chelsea in an incredibly frustrating 1-1 draw at the weekend as they slipped six points behind leaders Arsenal.
Brighton eased to a 2-0 win over Burnley in their last match as they continued to put space between themselves and the relegation zone.
- City are unbeaten in their last eight in the league (W6, D2)
- Erling Haaland has scored 19 league goals this season
Head To Head
City have won five of their last 10 against Brighton, with the latter winning three times and two games ending as draws.
Manchester City Form
Manchester City could not get that all important second goal in their last outing against Chelsea as they were punished by the Blues in a 1-1 draw. While this did extend their unbeaten run in the league to eight games, it did stretch their winless run to two matches after a pair of draws against Sunderland and Chelsea.
With Arsenal six points ahead of City, the latter simply cannot afford to drop points against Brighton. The Gunners take on Liverpool in midweek with City hoping the Reds can do them a favour. A win over Brighton coupled with a Liverpool victory would see City move to within three points of their opponents.
While Brighton have proved something of a banana skin for City of late, I foresee nothing other than a home win for Pep Guardiola's side. The travelling side have lost five of their 10 on the road and I predict they will be consigned to another loss as Erling Haaland adds to his 19 league goals.
Brighton Form
Brighton knew they could not afford to lose to Burnley at the weekend, with their clash one that could have seen them dragged into the relegation battle.
Their 2-0 win saw the home side end a run of six without a win, while it means the side are now 14 points clear of West Ham in 18th. From here, a handful of wins will edge them towards 40 points, although the mark for safety will likely be much lower this year, such is the weakness of the current bottom three.
While Brighton arrive without a defeat in their last three against City, I predict that they will slip to a loss in midweek. Getting a win in their last game was important, but beating the side currently sitting in 19th does not hid a run of six without a win that included three defeats.
Verdict
I am backing Erling Haaland to lead Manchester City to victory against Brighton as Pep Guardiola's men end their two-game winless run.
