Manchester City vs Galatasaray Preview & Tips
Manchester City shot themselves in the foot in their seventh Champions League group game as they were humiliated in a 3-1 loss to Bodo/Glimt.
Galatasaray could move above Manchester City in the standings if they can secure a win and swing a four-goal difference in the match.
- City have won two of their three home games in the competition (L1)
- City’s two home wins have come by two goals or more
Head To Head
This will be the first time the two clubs have met in a competitive match.
Manchester City Form
Manchester City are in need of a real shot in the arm in midweek after an insipid performance last week led to a chastening 3-1 loss to Bodo/Glimt that has put them on the backfoot in the competition.
While City are level on points with eighth placed Chelsea, they are denied a spot in the top eight by goal difference. If they were to have beaten Bodo/Glimt, they would currently sit in third with a top two spot within reach.
As it is, they now need to beat Galatasaray well and hope other results go their way. Whether City will hammer their opponents remains to be seen. The travelling side have only conceded one goal in each of their last three. However, with City’s need for a win and goals, I back the home side to continue their trend of winning by two goals or more at home in more of a battling win than a hammering of the visitors.
This will see City keep their hopes of leapfrogging teams like Liverpool, who play Qarabag, alive.
Galatasaray Form
Galatasaray have hit a real speedbump in their Champions League campaign, with a single point coming from their last three matches.
A 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid last time out saw Galatasaray notch a point in a real fight, but they were unable to secure the home win they needed to climb towards the top eight places.
While Galatasaray have only conceded one goal in each of their last three, they have also lost twice. Defeats to Royale Union SG and Monaco show Galatasaray are far from unbeatable.
In the final group game, points and goals are vital. With Galatasaray heading to City, I predict that this one will see the away team beaten comfortably.
Verdict
I am backing City to secure a win by two goals or more as they keep their top eight hopes alive.
