Manchester United vs West Ham Preview & Tips
Manchester United came from 1-0 down against Crystal Palace in their last league game to secure a 2-1 win that ended a three-game winless run.
West Ham failed to make the most out of Liverpool’s poor run of form as they slipped to a 2-0 home loss against the champions.
- Manchester United have won four of their six home matches in the league (L2)
- West Ham have lost two of their last three on the road (D1)
- Both sides have scored in two of their last three meetings
Head To Head
Manchester United have won five of their last 10 against West Ham, with the Hammers winning the other five encounters.
Manchester United Form
Despite enduring an inconsistent start to the season, Manchester United currently find themselves just three points short of Aston Villa in fourth in the standings.
Six wins have come alongside three draws and four defeats, with United unable to consistently take all three points from their outings. At home, things have been better, with four wins coming from their six at Old Trafford in a solid run.
Last week, they battled to an impressive 2-1 win over a strong Crystal Palace side that had only lost two of their opening 12 prior to their defeat at the hands of United. With a West Ham side that have lost eight of their opening 13 league games, United have to turn one win into two as they look to forge their way up the table.
West Ham Form
West Ham have not been good enough this season, and they look good value to become embroiled in a real relegation scrap come the end of the season.
Three wins in 13 attempts is a poor return, with the 11 points they have secured seeing them sit in 17th, level with Leeds in 18th. Their last outing saw them lose 2-0 to a Liverpool side that have been woeful of late. Defeat summed up West Ham’s issues both in attack and defence as they failed to breach their wobbling opponents.
While I back them to find a way to score against a host that has failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last six, I do not back them to win this game as they slip to consecutive defeats.
Verdict
I am backing both sides to score in a scrappy game. While I predict that the home side will notch their fifth win in seven outings at Old Trafford in the league, I do not expect it to be pretty.
