Newcastle vs Fulham Preview & Tips
Newcastle are looking to defend their EFL Cup crown after they beat Liverpool in the final at Wembley last season.
Fulham can make a major statement in their clash with Newcastle as they look to lay down a marker in the competition.
- Both sides have scored in their last three meetings
- Newcastle beat Tottenham 2-0 in the last round of the EFL Cup
Head To Head
Newcastle have won seven of their last 10 against Fulham, with the latter winning twice and one game ending as a draw.
Newcastle Form
Newcastle have been good in the EFL Cup, with the reigning champions looking to prove their triumph in 2025 was not a flash in the pan.
Their opening round saw them beat Bradford City 4-1 in a comfortable win before they eased past Tottenham. Their 2-0 triumph over Spurs means they arrive for this one having already accounted for another Premier League side, and they will fancy their chances of eliminating two London based clubs in two rounds.
With seven wins coming from their last nine against Fulham, I predict that the Magpies will find a way past their opponents. Particularly strong at St James’ Park, I predict that while Newcastle will fail to keep a clean sheet for their fourth consecutive match against Fulham, the home side will take their place in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup.
Fulham Form
Fulham arrive for their EFL Cup quarter-final on the back of wins over Bristol City, Cambridge United and Wycombe, with the side easing to three successive triumphs.
The major worry I have for Fulham in this one is their lack of game-time against Premier League opposition in the tournament so far. Whereas Newcastle have already accounted for Tottenham, will the fact they have not taken on a side from their own league come back to haunt them?
Of course, it is worth noting that Fulham play Premier League opponents each week, meaning this will be nothing new. However, with a place in the semi-finals of the competition on the line, I back the travelling side to falter as the quality of opposition jumps up.
Verdict
I am backing Newcastle to secure the win despite failing to keep a clean sheet for the fourth consecutive meeting with their opponents.
