Newcastle vs Manchester City Preview & Tips

Newcastle were beaten 3-1 by Brentford in their last Premier League match as they were consigned to a second consecutive league defeat.

Manchester City humbled Liverpool in an impressive 3-0 win that extended their winning run in the league to two games.

The Magpies have seen both sides score in their last four league games

Head To Head

City have won seven of their last 10 against Newcastle, with the Magpies winning once and two games ending as draws.

Newcastle Form

Newcastle have really struggled of late, with a pair of 3-1 defeats to inconsistent Brentford and lowly West Ham seeing them slide down the table.

Currently sitting in 14th with 12 points, the Magpies are only two clear of West Ham in 18th. More positively for the Magpies is their home form. At St James’ Park, they have won three of their five outings including their last two.

They now take on an opponent that boasts the best striker in the game in Erling Haaland. Like most teams, Newcastle will likely find out that stopping Haaland is incredibly tough.

Indeed, fighting fire with fire may be the better choice, which is why I predict that both sides will score in this one. Newcastle have not kept a clean sheet since they beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 five games ago on October 5th. With this in mind, I expect both sides to score once again as the Magpies look to end their losing run.

Manchester City Form

Manchester City have been enjoyed a formidable charge up the Premier League standings of late, with the side currently sitting just four points short of Arsenal at the summit.

It should worry Arsenal that while they have been lauded for going on a very strong run, by contrast, City have been below their best and are still right behind the leaders.

Erling Haaland has been central to their form, scoring 14 goals so far. The one worry for City in this one will be their away form. In the league, they have won twice away from home, losing twice and drawing once. Meanwhile, they have seen both sides score in three of their last four in all competitions.

With City’s less-than-perfect away form in mind, I am shying away from backing an outright result in this one. Instead, I am backing Haaland to breach Newcastle's backline as the Magpies also hit the back of the net.
