Newcastle vs Manchester City Preview & Tips
Newcastle were able to ease to a 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the last round of the FA Cup as they beat yet another Premier League opponent in the competition.
Manchester City beat Salford 2-0 in the last round as they kept their hopes of winning the FA Cup this season alive.
- Newcastle have seen both sides score in their last two FA Cup matches
- City have won their last three against the Magpies
Head To Head
City have won seven of their last 10 against Newcastle, with the Magpies winning twice and one game ending as a draw.
Newcastle Form
Newcastle have been in fairly good form of late, with wins over Tottenham, Aston Villa, Qarabag twice and Manchester United seeing them win five of their last seven across competitions.
However, defeats to Manchester City and Everton have hindered their progress somewhat, with their 3-2 loss to Everton at St James' Park particularly frustrating. With the Magpies still in with a chance of winning two trophies in the FA Cup and Champions League, cutting out needless defeats is vital.
Recent matches against City have been fairly close as Newcastle have challenged their opponents. The main worry for Newcastle will be that of the four times they have met this season, they won the first before losing the next three in a poor run. With this in mind, I predict that the Magpies will slip to a fourth consecutive loss at the hands of their opponents despite breaching their defence.
Manchester City Form
Manchester City stormed to a 10-1 win over Exeter in their opening FA Cup match before they notched a 2-0 win over Salford in the next round.
Heading into their FA Cup match against Newcastle, City boast a 10-game unbeaten run that features eight wins and two draws. Their frustrating 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest in midweek will likely spur them on at the weekend after they saw their hopes of catching Arsenal at the top of the Premier League take a major blow.
With the Premier League title moving further out of their reach after their shock draw with Forest, Pep Guardiola will more than likely see the value of winning the FA Cup this season. I predict that while they will concede, they will come away from this one with the win.
Verdict
I am backing both sides to fail to keep a clean sheet as Manchester City move closer to winning the FA Cup this season.
