Nottingham Forest are looking to build on their 4-2 win over Fenerbahce in the Europa League playoffs after impressing at times across the tie. 

Midtjylland will be looking to continue an impressive European run that saw the side finish in third in the group phase of the tournament.

The pair have only met once before, with Midtjylland winning 3-2 back in October. 

Nottingham Forest Form


Nottingham Forest put their inconsistent ways on full show in the playoff stage of the Europa League as they edged to a 4-2 aggregate win over Fenerbahce. 

Their 3-0 win on the road was a stunning display of football as they took their hosts to the cleaners. However, they looked nervous at home and were on the cusp of a stunning result as they slipped 2-0 down. While they did manage to score a goal in the 68th minute to create a two-goal cushion, they were far from convincing.

If Forest can channel the performance from their away game against Fenerbahce then they will win this match. However, if they struggle as they did in the return leg, then this is anyone’s game. 

On the back of a battling 2-2 draw with Manchester City in their last outing, I am backing Forest to come good once again. They have shown glimpses of the quality they have in their ranks, and I predict that they will prove too good for Midtjylland. 

Midtjylland Form 


Midtjylland were excellent across the Europa League group stage as they lost one of their eight games, winning six times and drawing once. 

Finishing above the likes of Real Betis, Porto and Roma will give the side a huge amount of confidence, and they will not fear Nottingham Forest heading into this one. This is doubly true after Midtjylland were able to take all three points in their last match against their opponents. 

While I predict this tie will be very tight, I believe Midtjylland will have to get a result at home after losing the first-leg. Forest were able to show that they are very strong on their day, and I back them to secure a lead on their own patch. 

Verdict

I am backing Forest to beat Midtjylland in the first-leg as they enhance their hopes of an extended run in the Europa League.
