Real Sociedad vs Barcelona Preview & Tips
Real Sociedad ended their winless run in the league with a battling 2-1 win over Getafe as they edged away from the relegation zone.
Barcelona have built a four-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of La Liga and will be eyeing a 17th wins in 20 league games this season.
- Barcelona have won their last three league games to nil
- Sociedad have lost two of their last three at home (D1)
Head To Head
Barcelona have won eight of their last 10 against Sociedad, with the latter winning twice in this time.
Real Sociedad Form
Real Sociedad have been strong of late, with the side picking up five points from a possible nine following draws with Levante and Atletico Madrid, while they notched an impressive 2-1 win on the road against Getafe in their last league outing.
While they have been better in recent weeks, their three-game losing run across the end of November into mid-December saw Sociedad slide down the table. They have also failed to win any of their last three at home, losing twice and drawing once.
While they did beat Barcelona the last time they hosted their opponents, they have lost four of their last five against Barca. With this in mind, I predict that the home side will struggle this week.
Barcelona Form
Barcelona have been outstanding this season, with 16 wins coming alongside one draw and two defeats. Their run of results has seen the reigning champions move four points clear of Real Madrid, who take on Levante this week, in second.
Across their last nine games, Barcelona have won each time, while they have won to nil in their last three league outings. By contrast, arch-rivals Real Madrid seem to be in crisis. The sacking of manager Xabi Alonso followed their 3-2 Super Cup loss to Barcelona was then followed by a cup loss to Albacete in midweek. With Real four points behind Barca at the top, the former are in something of a crisis.
Barcelona will sense this is the moment to really put the boot in on Real. With this in mind, I predict they will storm to another win to nil as they record their 17th victory in 20 league games this season.
Verdict
I am backing Barcelona to keep a clean sheet in a statement win over Real Sociedad at the weekend.
