Slavia Prague vs Barcelona Preview & Tips

Slavia Prague are hoping to keep their Champions League playoff hopes alive, with the side currently sitting four points short of Copenhagen in 24th with two games to play.

Barcelona have been very inconsistent across their opening six Champions League matches. winning three times, drawing once and losing twice.

  • The home side have drawn two of their three matches on their own patch (L1)
  • Barcelona are winless in their last two on the road in Europe (L1, D1)

Head To Head

The pair have only met twice before, with Barcelona winning once and one game ending as a draw.

Slavia Prague Form

Slavia Prague arrive for their seventh match of their Champions League campaign searching for their first win.

Three draws and three defeats have seen Slavia Prague pick up three points. With time running out, the home side need to win their final two matches if they are to have any hope of usurping a number of sides hoping to make it into the top 24 spots.

However, such has been their woes when it comes to winning games in Europe, I cannot back them to win this one. Battling draws against Athletic Bilbao and Bodo/Glimt at home sandwich a respectable 0-0 draw with Atalanta in Italy. With this in mind, I back the home side to frustrate their Spanish opponents.

Barcelona Form

Barcelona come into their seventh match of the Champions League season knowing they have to win their final two games and hope other sides can do them some favours if they are to finish in the top eight.

The 10 points they have picked up have comes from a range of different results. A 2-1 win at St James’ Park against Newcastle in their opener was a good result before they were beaten at home by PSG. A big 6-1 win over Olympiacos was then followed by a draw with Club Brugge and a stunning 3-0 loss to Chelsea.

They then got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt as they stayed close to a range of top sides including second placed Bayern Munich, who host Royale Union SG on Wednesday.

Their mixed bag of results shows that the Spanish side have found performing consistently hugely challenging. With three away games culminating in a win, a draw and a defeat, I predict that the travelling side will slip to a frustrating point on the road as their hopes of snaring a top eight spot takes a hammer blow.

Verdict

I am backing Barcelona to drop two points as Slavia Prague secure a defiant draw in Europe’s top competition.
