South Korea vs Paraguay Preview & Tips

South Korea were hammered 5-0 by Brazil in their last match as their two-game winning run was brought to a grinding halt.

Paraguay held Japan in an entertaining 2-2 draw that extended their unbeaten run to three matches.

  • The last match involving the sides ended in a 2-2 draw
  • Paraguay have drawn two of their last three

Head To Head

The pair have met a total of five times, with South Korea winning twice and three games ending as draws.

South Korea Form

South Korea came into the international break in October looking to extend an impressive two-game unbeaten run that had seen them beat the USA 2-0 and draw 2-2 with Mexico.

However, they were blown away by Brazil in their most recent game as they were beaten 5-0. In truth, South Korea barely threatened, registering just a single shot on goal across 90 minutes. By contrast, Brazil had seven shots that hit the target, with five ending in goals.

While few would claim South Korea are in the same bracket as Brazil, this result is a major worry. Historically, Brazil are one of the best sides in the game, but they struggled to fifth in South American World Cup qualifying, scoring just 24 goals in 18 outings. Conceding five goals to a side that scored an average of 1.3 goals per game in qualifying is a big worry.

The focus in their latest game needs to be on defensive solidity, and I back this to come at the cost of attacking football as South Korea are held.

Paraguay Form

Paraguay backed up their impressive sixth-placed finish in World Cup qualifying with a battling 2-2 draw against Japan in their last match.

In truth, Paraguay will be disappointed to have failed to beat Japan after going 1-0 and 2-1 up in their games. Despite this, Paraguay now boast a three-game unbeaten run that also includes a 0-0 draw with Ecuador and a 1-0 win over Peru. Interestingly, Paraguay finished on 28 points in World Cup qualifying, the exact same number as Brazil.

While I do not predict Paraguay to hammer South Korea, I do believe they will give them a supremely awkward match. Paraguay only conceded 10 goals in their 18 qualifying games, while their last clash with Brazil ended in a tight 1-0 loss back in June.

I predict a close match in which the pair fail to separate themselves.

Verdict

I predict the two sides will play out a draw that helps South Korea bounce back from their loss to Brazil whilst extending Paraguay's unbeaten run to four games.
