Alex De Minaur slipped to a frustrating defeat in straight sets to Karen Khachanov in the semi-finals of the ATP Vienna in his last outing.

Mariano Navone was easily beaten by Miomir Kecmanovic in his last outing as he lost in the first round in Vienna.

This will be the first meeting between the pair in a competitive tennis match.

Alex De Minaur has looked good of late, making at least the quarter-finals of his last cluster of tournaments.

His best run came in Vienna, where De Minaur eased into the semi-finals of the competition. While he hardly had everything his own way, he put his determination on full show as he came back from a set down in both the first round and quarter-finals.

While he was beaten by Khachanov in the semi-finals, this run to the last-four will have given him a lot of confidence, and I am backing him to hit the ground running in Vienna.

Mariano Navone Form

Mariano Navone has really struggled in recent months, with an underwhelming run of results seeing his elimination in the second round in Antwerp in October as his best streak for months.

Defeats in the first rounds in Cincinnati, Shanghai and Vienna have hardly seen Navone put his best foot forward, with the 29-year-old seemingly bereft of confidence right now.

While Navone has every chance of winning this match, I believe a lack of wins in recent months will come back to haunt him. Confidence is incredibly important in tennis, while much in the same way as winning can become a habit in tennis, so can losing.
