Taylor Fritz eased to a 3-1 win over Casper Ruud in his last match as he dropped a set for the first time at the US Open this year.

Alexander Zverev came back from a set down to beat Brandon Nakashima 3-1 to take his place in the quarter-finals of the US Open.

Zverev has won five of the nine meetings between the pair, although Fritz did beat his opponent in five sets at Wimbledon in their last contest.

Taylor Fritz has been excellent this year, and he will have aspirations of securing his first Grand Slam crown following the shock exits of Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

His 3-1 win over Casper Ruud made it four victories on the bounce, although it saw Fritz drop his first set at the competition this term.

While Fritz will give Zverev a real test in the quarter-final, I am backing him to slip to a heart-breaking 3-2 loss. Zverev has been exceptionally good this year, and he will fancy his chances of edging closer to the US Open crown.

Alexander Zverev Form

Alexander Zverev was not at his best in the first set against Brandon Nakashima, but he bounced back with a supreme 6-1 6-2 6-2 triumph across sets two, three and four.

It would have been very easy for Zverev to have fallen apart after losing the first set, especially after seeing both Djokovic and Alcaraz lose early in the competition. However, he rallied well and ran out as the 3-1 winner.

With 56 wins in 72 matches in 2024, Zverev has excelled in 2024, and he will be the pick of many to secure the final Grand Slam crown of the season.
