Arsenal will hope they do not make it a hattrick of being the bridesmaid and never the bride when they take to the field this season.

The last two seasons has seen the Gunners finish as runners-up to Manchester City, with the London side never quite good enough to deny Pep Guardiola's men the title. While they closed the gap from five points in 2022/23 to just two points last year, it was still not enough, and Mikel Arteta will target scooping the trophy this year after too many near-misses.

A win over a Wolves side that was incredibly inconsistent last year is vital if the Gunners are to get their title challenge off to the right start. While Wolves have a shock result in them, Arsenal know they need to translate most of their home games into wins this year.

Despite finishing 20 points clear of Luton Town in 18th last year, Wolves were hardly convincing as they were beaten in 18 of their 38 matches in the 2023/24 season.

Conceding 65 goals made up a huge part of their struggles last year, while the 50 goals they scored was not nearly enough to see them win the majority of their matches.

This year, Wolves have to be more consistent, but they have a huge challenge ahead of them if they are to win their opening match. I predict that Arsenal will extend their run of wins against the Wanderers as they get off to a winning start this weekend.

I am backing the Gunners to win this one, while I also predict a third 2-1 win for Arsenal in their last four against Wolves at the Emirates.
