Bournemouth battled to a point in their opening match of the new Premier League season as their clash with Nottingham Forest ended in a 1-1 draw.

Newcastle were incredibly resolute in their opening match as they beat Southampton 1-0 despite going down to 10-men before the half-hour mark.

Bournemouth were minutes away from beginning their 2024/25 Premier League campaign with defeat as they trailed Nottingham Forest heading into the 86th minute.

A late goal from Antoine Semenyo salvaged a point for the Cherries, but on another day things could have been very different. Indeed, against a more defensively sound side, Bournemouth would likely have failed to pick up a single point.

While the Cherries have only lost four of their last 10 against Newcastle, they take on a side that will have been buoyed by their rearguard effort last week, with this their third win to nil in as many matches.

Newcastle were brilliant defensively in their opening match of the season as they found a way to keep a clean sheet and score once from only three total shots after losing Fabian Schar to a red card in the 28th minute.

Their defensive fortitude was clear for all to see, and it made it three victories and three clean sheets in as many games. While the game was not pretty, it allowed the Magpies to get off to a winning start.

This week, the focus will be on building upon this win whilst trying to keep 11-men on the pitch. If Newcastle show the same type of resolve on the pitch in game two, they will win to nil for a fourth consecutive match.
