Liverpool vs Aston Villa Preview & Tips
Liverpool are in desperate need of a league win, with the reigning champions losing their last four in the competition.
Aston Villa secured an incredibly impressive 1-0 win over Manchester City in their last game as they extended their winning run to four matches.
- Liverpool have beaten Villa in their last four home games
- The Reds have seen both sides score in their last five in the league
- Villa have seen both sides score in their last two away games in the competition
Head To Head
Liverpool have won seven of their last 10 against Villa, with the other three games ending as draws.
Liverpool Form
Liverpool have been nowhere near good enough across September and October, with the reigning champions failing to pick up a single point from their last four matches.
Their 3-2 loss to Brentford saw the Reds lose to Brentford for the first since 2023, while they have now slipped down to seventh in the league with 15 points, seven short of Arsenal at the summit. Fortunately for the Reds, Anfield has seen three wins in four games, and they will be desperate to bounce back from their 2-1 loss to Manchester United in their last home game in the league.
Conceding goals has been a continued issue for the Reds this year, with the side conceding 14 goals, which is 11 more than top-side Arsenal. While I back Liverpool to get back to winning ways, I do not believe their defensive issues will be resolved this weekend.
Aston Villa Form
Aston Villa arrive for their clash with Liverpool on the back of a four-game winning run in the Premier League.
Their 1-0 win over Manchester City seems tight when only taking the scoreline into account, but Villa created a number of big chances and could have extended their lead. Villa were superb at the back, but on another day, they could have been outdone due to their inability to find the back of the net for a second time.
This weekend, I back the travelling side to give Liverpool issues and score for the sixth consecutive league game. However, I do not see them taking the points from the Reds as they are beaten for the third successive trip to Anfield.
Verdict
I am backing both sides to score as Liverpool's attack is once against forced to make up for their weak defence in a battling win.
