Monaco eased to a 1-0 win over Saint-Etienne in game one as they began their new campaign with a win.

Lyon were unable to hit the ground running in their opening match of the new season as they were humbled by Rennes in a 3-0 loss.

Despite taking 16 shots and enjoying slightly more of the ball, Lyon could only hit the target twice, with the away side incredibly wasteful. While Lyon will have better days, it was a bad time for both their attack and defence to fail in the opening game of the season.

Now, Lyon face a tough test in their second game. While the home side have had the better of their recent meetings with Monaco, I do not predict an easy game for a Lyon side that dare not slip to a second successive defeat,

Monaco dominated Saint-Etienne in their opening match but could only win by a single goal as they scored with just one of their 17 attempts on goal.

Winning their first match was the most important thing for Monaco, but they cannot afford to continue to be so wasteful in front of goal. Against better opponents, Monaco will be punished.

While I do predict that Monaco will have their time in this match, they have not enjoyed recent meetings with their opponents. Indeed, their last three meetings with Lyon on the road have ended in defeat, and I predict this run will be extended to four matches.
