Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid Preview & Tips

Arsenal are looking to build on their strong start to the Champions League season with a third consecutive win as they welcome Atletico Madrid to the Emirates Stadium.

Atletico Madrid hammered Eintracht Frankfurt in their last European game as they bounced back from their 3-2 loss to Liverpool.

Arsenal are yet to concede in the Champions League while they have won both outings so far

Head To Head

The pair have met four times in total, with Atletico winning twice, Arsenal winning once and one game ending as a draw.

Arsenal Form

Arsenal have been outstanding this season, arriving with a 100% record in the Champions League, while their 1-0 win over Fulham at the weekend saw them move to the summit of the Premier League.

In Europe, Arsenal have been able to beat Athletic Bilbao and Olympiacos 2-0, with the Gunners rarely stretched against either side. While neither of the pair is at the pinnacle of the European game, clean sheets and wins, especially on the road, are impressive and should be celebrated.

Now, Arsenal face their toughest test of their European campaign yet. Atletico Madrid arrive in poor form on the road across competitions, but they are rarely an opponent that is easily beaten. While I back the Gunners to secure a fourth consecutive win to nil in all competitions, I do not predict an easy game where the Gunners run riot.

Atletico Madrid Form

Atletico Madrid arrive for their clash with Arsenal on the back of a battling 1-0 win over Osasuna in the league. Like Arsenal, they were made to fight hard for their win, with a single goal enough to take all three points.

Atleti were able to completely dismantle Eintracht Frankfurt in their last European match, hammering their German opponents 5-1. This win was hugely important following their 3-2 loss to Liverpool in their opening fixture. While Atletico are currently scoring well having hit the back of the net seven times, they are yet to keep a clean sheet, conceding four times.

Against Arsenal, they will meet one of only two sides yet to concede in the Champions League. Away from home, I back Atleti to struggle against a Gunners side that will have making it three consecutive wins in Europe at the forefront of their minds.
