Real Madrid are looking to creep towards the new season with a win in the UEFA Super Cup, with a shot at silverware already here.

Atalanta arrive as the underdogs in this clash, but this will suit an Italian side that continually upset the odds last year.

Real have beaten Atalanta in their two previous meetings, securing a 3-1 win in their last encounter.

Real Madrid have not had it all their own way in preseason, winning two of their four matches and losing twice.

Wins over Albacete and Chelsea have sandwiched defeats to AC Milan and Barcelona, although it is likely the side have learned a lot more about themselves via their recent defeats. Their win over Chelsea would have been morale-boosting, but each match will have seen the Spanish side building towards playing their strongest available XI in this match.

Atalanta will look to soak up pressure and hit Real quickly on the break, but their ability to keep out the wealth of attacking riches Real possess will be tested to the limit. If Kylian Mbappe starts, I expect him to score on his competitive debut.

Atalanta have been hammered by Parma (4-1) and St Pauli (3-0) in their last two, with the side not at the races in either game.

Worrying for the outfit is that they are now winless in their last four spanning back to their 3-0 win over Torino in their penultimate league game in late-May. Of course, they have only played four matches since June 2, but they have lost three of their last four.

While Atalanta made a habit out of stunning bigger sides, this is arguably the biggest test in club football. Real do not often lose major European finals, and this will likely end in disappointment for Atalanta.

I am backing this one to see goals as Real and Atalanta raise the curtain on the new season in style. I also believe that if Kylian Mbappe plays, then he will open his account for his new employers.
